    Animation display issue

Recently I sat down and began experimenting with animations. I noticed that when changing the animation sometimes the first frame of the new animation would be skipped. I made a quick application that definitely shows that something strange is going on as the first frame will almost always be shown a very short amount of time compared to the following frames.

So I'd like to ask if anyone can tell me if I've done something wrong or why this is happening? Using a custom animation system where I change the frames manually works great but I cannot for life get this to work the way I want it to.

The application I made can be found here:
    AnimationProblem.mfa

    Thanks!

Instead of making an animation with different frames in the application, try using an active background or active object with the built-in animation editor at the bottom.

    I'm not sure I understand...

For the record, if there is some kind of confusion here, I want to clarify that the application I posted is just a quick test to show the problem I'm having. Each frame is represented by a color and the first frame (colored green) is displayed a much shorter time than the following 3 frames.

I've seen this as well, actually, so I can confirm your problem - unfortunately I'm not sure what to do to fix it!

    1. Right click
    2. Hit "insert object"
    3. find and double click the "active object" on the list
    4. left click to place the object
    5. right click on the object and hit edit
    6. on the left there is a button that looks like a diagonal line with arrows on each end
    7. after clicking on that option, set the width to 640 and height to 480 or different than that based on the side of the application frame
    8. create the image you want for the first frame
    9. go to the bottom, right click on the current frame and hit clone frame, edit the new frames
    10. on the bottom there should be a "direction options" tab; click on it and set the animation speed to your liking. you can hit "loop" if you want and set the frame to go back to when the animation ends

    that should clear things up.

for the record, the link is broken so this is my guess at what your problem is: you are trying to use the "frames" of the application rather than the frames of animation in the custom object.

Oh sorry, didn't know the link was broken. I attached the mfa to my post instead so it should be working. But no, that is not my problem at all. I know the difference between frame, frame and frame. :P

DavidN, I'm glad it's just not me! Can't say I recall animations always acting like this though...

From the old days I seem to remember that we had to add another frame 1 to the end of the animation.

Wow that... actually seems to work! If Francois or Yves can't do anything about this at least there's a good workaround. Thanks nivram!

Not a problem and glad to share.
I'll make sure this workaround gets into the Technical Manual, if it's not already there.
