    Terarria Water Effect

I've been fiddling about trying to do a water effect like the one in Terarria, but had no success.

    Example Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqE1gw2FkPk

Is this possible? Any tutorials/examples around?

I think it would be possible, but it wouldn't be easy, and it would probably be hard to keep the frame rate up at the same time.

The video makes it look like the water is built out of a large number of square active objects. It probably has basic logic that determines how the water chunks move: move left/right if no solid terrain is blocking it's movement, and move down if no terrain or water is below it.

I'm working with a low res (320x200), which might be an advantage in this case.

Maybe just have the surface of the water as actives, then fill the rest somehow? I don't know, just theorizing.

I don't know if this will help but after the water gets to its destination, couldn't you just past them into the background and destroy the active and have the other actives only on the top layer that act like water? Not sure if that would work, but worth a shot.

I see you are from 2006, but have no products registered. Are you running the demo? If not there is the Water Surface Extension dated 12/5/2009. You might have some luck with that.
