    Question Problem with jumping

Sorry in advance for asking something so simple as well as for possibly posting this in the wrong forum.

I decided recently to try making a game with an old copy of MMF2D I got like 5 years ago. I'm making a game with several genre elements including platforming, but I can't figure out how to make my Active character jump. I tried setting the controls to the default Up+Left/Right option, which allows me to make my character bounce left and right in succession like a ball, but whenever I try to just jump straight up, I get no response; the Active character won't move until I hit Left or Right, at which point said character resumes left-or-right-but-never-straight-up bouncing.

    What am I doing wrong?

Dont use the build-in movement.....try to add the PMO (plataform movement object) and use this extension to make your game....

you can download this tutorial MFA file to help you how to use PMO.

    PMO...?

I Googled that and... If you mean this thing: http://ext.neatwares.ath.cx/ext/Platform_Movement ...It doesn't work. Yahoo! can't seem to find the page. Is there another link somewhere?

Also, just out of curiosity, why should I not use the default movement? Is it a matter of complexity, obsoletion, or what?

The built in Platform Movement is full of nasty suprises.
Like you said, you can jump straight upwards, and youll stick to walls if you crash with them in the air.

Jaffobs Extencion View programm is available from the main page of the forum i think ( on the right side? )
From there you can easily find and install most if not any public extencions with ease ( the PMO should be there, its called the Platform Movement Object ).

Yeah, its located at the right side of the main page, under 'Community Links --> Extencions'

I could be wrong, but isn't the PMO installed with later builds of MMF2? Shouldn't need to go looking for it. I don't recall ever having to go search for it.

Keywords there being "later builds," good sir. According to the disc case and my join date for this place, my copy is from early 2008 at the very latest.

Also, I figured out how to view that list of 500 Extensions and get Chaos' PMO thingy installed. Looks a lot more clear to work with than what I was trying to do.

Yes, but you can update your copy to the latest build at any time, so it doesn't matter when you purchased it. It generally checks it on start up, or at least does for me.

If it's not automatically updating you can download the latest build here http://community.clickteam.com/showthread.php?t=71372 it's a sticky thread at the top of the forum. I know you already have the object, but the builds fix bugs and add features.
