Use fake retina screenshots or not?

My game is 960x640 and I'm wondering what's best for submission in iTunes: just submit the 960x640 and 1024x768 screenshots I could take on my devices or should I scale them up to retina resolution? It won't look too bad. I guess in the App Store it would be less attractive for all the retina users. Is there any risk of being rejected if I don't use screenshots of the native res?

Scale them up to retina resolution then use some image tools to make them look better.

The device will scale them up anyway so it will be an accurate representation of the game.

Ok, thanks. So I add only the 2048x1536 shots for iPad and the App Store scales it down automatically for non-retina users?

If they only accept one or the other then yes, I'm sure they do.
If they accept both resolutions then use both.

I can upload a maximum 5 shots and either size works, so I submitted with 3 hires shots. Will this work, has anyone done this? These details drive me mad.

You don't need to upload 2048x1536 screenshots, 1024x768 is acceptable. You could just take your normal screenshots and add letterboxes to them, as that is how it would look on the devices anyway. I've done this with my screenshots (as an example, look at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-...6034?ls=1&mt=8. That game is 1136x640 as its native resolution.
