Using WebCam, ActiveX or other - advice needed

I want to do a simple game for my grand child (who lives 120 kilometers away) where we can use web cams and communicate within the game.

After reading search results (from the old forum) about web cams and MMF I tested my webcam and ActiveX (Net meeting) It worked directly but felt a bit jumpy. And I wasn't able to change the size of the cam window.

Anyone have experience using web cam and MMF2?
Can I use something else besides ActiveX with the cam?

Any ideas and suggestions appreciated.

I've done it using Webcam software and Active X's Microsoft browser object.

Indirect, but it works...

AFAIK, an extension is (or at least was) in the works for this (don't know any more details than that though, sorry)

The jumpyness is hard to solve. I don't think you'll be able to make it smooth in MMF with it's current online capability. In fact, it will probably be worse than Net meeting (MOO has a very large header)

The size also may be tricky - I think the ActiveX for webcams just puts a border around the image when the object is too big. But you may be able to add the perspective object over the ActiveX to zoom in on it.

Also, when the Call DLL object gets released, it will be possible to get the webcam image via library functions, and the image could be loaded into the overlay object (and resized via a stretch). I could perhapse post an example of this once CallDLL has been released, but that won't be for a while yet

Have you tested this ActiveX with MMF2 and does it work?

Because if you have it would be good to add to the Wiki.

Yes I used MMF2 and the ActiveX 'Net Meeting'.
I had no idea what I was doing and what to chose in the ActiveX list, it was a guess. And strange enough it worked.

Only wish one could get a bigger window.

Are you able to load the activeX and do you see a user interface?

Read the documentation.
See if the properties, actions, events, and expressions are all available.
