Any way get icons from .exe files to the screen?

Having just swapped to a new keyboard with no handy shortcut buttons, I am going to make myself a simple shortcut app to define the F keys as whatever application I want.

I was looking for a way to copy the icon from programs assigned to the keys to the screen in some way (or into a file and then loaded up into an object). I cannot find a way to achieve this, except to display an icon perhaps on the tray bar, but this is not what I'm after.

Any ideas?

Get the path to the filename, and load the icon file into an active picture.
