    Rotate charachter when riding hills

    Hi guys,

I'm stuck with a lil problem. We have some hills / slopes in our levels and want the character to rotate when it goes on a hill. We are using PMO for the character.

Can anyone tell me what I got to do for this? Or where I can find more info about it?

    Thank you!
    Maarten

Is this a stupid question? Or doesn't anyone know an answer?

It's a difficult problem. And generally, you should wait more than a day before you assume no-one's going to answer.

Re: Rotate charachter when riding hills

Thank you. I saw all the direction options in the image editor but I don't think this is the right way to do it?

ps: I get great and fast support most of the times within a day so I thought I was asking something realy stupid. :P

Re: Rotate charachter when riding hills

Perhaps i missunderstood something, but couldn' t you just use the normal Active-Object and add just the Animation where the Character walks to the right.
Now use the Slider below the direction-selection and it set it to its maximum (far right). You get 32 Directions instead of just 4. Now right-click onto the Direction-Arrow that points to the right and select "create rotated directions". This will create the animation for all directions. Now you could use for example the Surface-Object and when the game-object is in front of a specified color (defined in the Surface-Object) then change the Animation-Direction to that Direction that is needed for the specified slope or hill.

I know... it sounds crazy, but its just my bad english writting. Anyways, i hope you' ve understood what i mean.

But if you need smooth rotation on 360 degrees, based on math, then i can not help you out. My Math-knowledge isn' t that good.

Re: Rotate charachter when riding hills

Jahkri is right, go to the "Edit" section for your character, then use the slider bar to the bottom left of the edit screen to add all the angles, then just assign the animations to that angle. from that point, make an event with something to the effect of a collision or some other type of activator to trigger the character to face the direction with the angled animation. if you still cant get it post an example file on here and i may be able to help you out...

I would also love to learn how to rotate the character based on the shape of slopes.

I don't honestly care how complicated the math is to learn it. I think it would be an invaluable thing to learn. If ANYONE has done this before, then I would love to get a solution to this, in addition to OP.

I would start with a follower object front and back of your main object and use these to calculate the angle and then set the relevant direction of you main obj.

Re: Rotate charachter when riding hills

Here is a quick example using followers. One frame with std MMF platform and another using PMO.
Standard works OK if the entry angle to the hill is smooth, not to abrupt. Otherwise it snags. PMO allows for, but does not totally fix this.

I have never tried "Move safely" or "Move it" and these may fix this issue which seems to be an ongoing one in MMF.
