    Lighting Effects

Hi, I've tried many different ways of making lighting in my game, but none work I've also searched as much as I can, I found "You don't need the surface extension. You just need HWA and layers, and it's very easy.

1.) Create layer(s) containing the game backgrounds, sprites, etc.
2.) Create a layer on top, and set the effect to "subtract". Add a white quick-backdrop object for total darkness, or a grey one for partial darkness.
3.) White now corresponds to darkness - any darker objects on the new layer will act as lights. For best results, you should use a circle which is black at the centre, and fades to transparent at the edges (using the alpha channel). You can use colors other than black to give colored lights.

    Here, I made an example:
    http://cid-b1e7ee094271bbda.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/LightsEg.mfa" But it didn't work.

I'm trying to make it so everythings dark in the game but all the torches (actives) produce a circle of light where I can see as much as if I didn't have any darkness. If I can't do this then my game has to go down the drain :'(

    Re: Lighting Effects

    Obvious questions:
Are you certain you opened the example in the HWA build of MMF2? (not the standard version)
Do you have a recent version? (I made it in 250)
When you say "it doesn't work", exactly what *does* happen?

It should do exactly what you want.

HWA is a seperate build? Do we have to pay for that or does it come free with mmf2?

It's free, but you have to download it separately.

    Re: Lighting Effects

People have done it before with the old ink effects, but only for one light at a time IIRC.
