KLiK-iT - As I said before: "...iPad 1 can't be upgraded to iOS 6 (highest is iOS 5.1)" So you'll be limited in what apps you can run. At some point Apple will release a version of XCode that won't support iOS 5.1 (lowest iOS at the moment is iOS 4.3) and then you'll need a newer iPad.

    Thank you....
I love my iPad. There are several fun games and useful applications. Don't expect a good experience playing Flash games on one though. I have tried many of the Flash solutions for the iPad and have yet to find one that is very good. Android tablets are a little better for Flash, but are still not optimal.

As mentioned before, you will need a Mac, Virtual Machine, or Hackintosh to export iOS games using XCode.

These are just some things to consider. Otherwise, iPads are really pretty awesome.

John stated his partner had a Mac, so he will be ok. Support ends for all software and hardware eventually, so John is aware of the risks involved in this regard.

Thanks Marv! Yes,.I do realize that 1st gen iPads will no longer be upgradable. I will look into a 2nd gen or higher so I won't have any issues. They are pretty expensive, but I do need one. I will eventually find one at a good price. I did find a few 2nd gens for a little more than $300. I think that's a pretty good deal. I can't get over how expensive they are though. Wow!!

I'm somewhat interested in the iPad Mini, but from what I understand it doesn't have a Retina display, so I'd just wait for the inevitable revision. I'm actually more interested in Kindle Fire HD, and I'd go with that hands down except Apple's app store is better (based on sheer volume of apps), and Kindle has it's own app store separate from the regular Android store. No idea how much good stuff is in the Kindle store though, I haven't bothered to look.

I think if you're planning on making any kind of app or game to sell, The Apple Store is the way to go. I didn't even know there was a kindle app store. I just goggled it and couldn't find anything on "Kindle App Store"?

Can kindles download iOS games just like an iPad or it a different OS for Kindles?

Kindle uses an Android OS, so you could still make games for it with the Android exporter. The only difference is that instead of using the traditional Android app store, Amazon decided to make their own. You can take a look at it on their website. I don't know what their submission process is, I haven't bothered to look. So I'd venture to guess there's even fewer apps on Kindle's store than the regular Android market, making it even more inferior to Apple's app store. The technical specs of the Kindle Fire HD beat iPad Mini, but Apple still has their juggernaut app store that just can't be beat. From a developer stand point, you'd be better served with an iPad for a larger market of potential sales (though I guess you could argue a smaller market means more odds of being noticed). But if you actually had success it wouldn't be hard to venture out into other markets with the profits you made. Another benefit of Android is you don't need to buy a Mac just to compile your game. Though someone else mentioned running the Mac OS on a virtual machine so I guess maybe you wouldn't need a Mac?

Once another iPad mini revision is out and they beef it up a bit more to compete with the Kindle Fire HD I think iPad Mini would be a no-brainer, but Kindle Fire HD is still a good purchase if you aren't too concerned about the app store (and actually a superior product if you don't count the app store).
