Alarm Clock with push notification extension?

I read that if i wanna create a simple alarm clock (which also works when the app is closed) i need sth like
schedule notifications in xcode. The push notification extension has somethin likt this. Can i use it to
create a simple alarm clock - or is there maybe a nother way?
