error: statically allocated instance of Objective-C class 'BoidType" at build

    Hi all,

I created my first iOS app. I kept it very small an simple to make sure I was following all the steps. It builds the ZIP fine in MMF2dev but when I try to test the program, in fails to build and gives me this strange error.

error: statically allocated instance of Objective-C class 'BoidType"

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could shed a little light on this for me.

    Currently using xcode 4.0.2

    Thank you!
    Tom

I forgot to mention that this error happens on my Mac in xcode at the test build stage.

    Hi again,

Wow! No one else seems to ever have encountered this problem!! I tried replacing some events and things, but always the same error. My app doesn't even use any extension outside of the basic MMF default stuff.

    What a frustrating problem!

MTCMusic - When I first read your post it looked like BOLDTYPE. I just now read it as BOIDTYPE. The word BOID sounds like it's related to Flocking. Are you using the Flocking Extension? Try removing it from your project. Sorry I can't be of more help as I've never used it

This is a *very* old version of XCode. The latest version is 4.6.

Thanks for your suggestion AyreGuitar, but I'm not using any 3rd party extension. Inm fact, it wouldn't build in MMF if I were using unsupported extensions.

Anders: So you're saying that the error is due to an outdated version of xcode? I feel pretty stupid right now. I'll go back on the dev site and make sure that I have the latest version, although I seem to remember clearly having done that right after I got the error, and it seems that 4.0.2 was the latest. And isn't xcode supposed to automatically check for updates and proceed with its own updating?

I'll check that out, and again thank you very much for the replies!

    Tom

Anders, you were right. It seems tha I can't update to 4.6 until I update my OS (buy upgrade) to Mountain Lion (or whatever new name they gave it). Of course, Xcode 4.6 only works on latest OS. Backward compatibility? No thanks. We're Apple. We do what we want as long as it makes us the most money. God I hate them so much.

Anyways, thanks again for yor help and I hope this can also help anyone else out there who encounter this same problem. You have to upgrade your OS to mountain lion and then download the latest XCode to get rid of this error.
