A way to check if one object is under another (Z-axis)?

Hey guys, sorry if this is so stupidly easy however I had a question:

Is there a way to check condition-wise if one object is on top of or under another object? I don't mean collision, I mean Z-axis for 2 actives that exist in the same layer.

I know you can check other conditions and set on object in front of or behind another one, but is there a way to have their Z axis be the condition itself? It would be very helpful if this were possible.

    Thank you!

Not by default. You'd need to keep track of this yourself by assigning a variable to each object that you'd need to update whenever an object changes it's order.
