    Teacher needs help

Hello there! I am a teacher for a company called Engineering for Kids. I teach MMF2 to 6-16 year olds. What most franchises do is just have kids follow the teacher step by step, where as I have altered my teachings so that the first two classes I introduce them to the different aspects of the program, and the last 4 days they have the freedom of trying to create the game of their choice. I have been able to help them most of the time based off what they are trying to create. However, as you can imagine, the kids have more imagination then what I was trained on to teach. I have done a lot of research on how to do specific tasks, but it's very rare that I find something that replicates what I am looking for exactly. My background is in audio engineering, and graphic/web design (knowing html/css/basic php). So coding isn't necessarily my forte. Is there any documentation that explains every aspect of the program in depth (like a manual?) Reason why I ask, is because I find this interesting (more so then most my colleagues) and would rather have a conceptional understanding of the program rather then just following steps. With that being said, my current project is a kid wants to make a stealth based game (metal gear mixed with mega-man). So current obstacles, allowing character to use grapple hook on certain obstacles (only when he is within distance etc.), allowing the character to go stealth, use melee weapons, and creating the viewing path of enemies (similar to metal gear). I am sorry for the inconvenience but any help is well appreciated. I hope this board is friendly and helpful . Good day to all!

First of all, thank you for teaching the way you teach. You have no idea how much trouble I'm having trying to teach myself C++ because textbook writers don't understand that you can't walk someone through a single project in order to teach them an entire language. In the case of MMF2 (not so much for traditional programming languages) I actually agree that the best way to learn MMF2 is to just figure out the basics, and then try to make something right away. I would try to encourage them to pick smaller projects than the game you're describing though. That sounds fairly difficult, especially for someone new to the program.

The built in guide does a reasonable job of explaining the basics of the program. Just press f1 to bring that up.
For learning how to use specific objects, you can select one in the frame, then in its properties tab, click the yellow dialog icon, and then click help under that. Most objects have a help section specifically for them, that will teach you how to use them.
This site has a lot of specific examples that helped me a lot. http://www.castles-of-britain.com/mm...lessitemap.htm

Well thank you for that LemonyLime, it's really nice to hear that. I've always felt it's best to give them the tools and direction to conceptually understand instead of just knowing how to complete the example you give them, so to hear that from you is great positive reinforcement. Also, thanks for the tips, glad this board is friendly and not filled with trolls. I hope I don't burden you guys in the future with my inquiries. Marv, your site is one of the few tools that I have been using, so thank you for that! Thanks for the responses.
