what are the "SPECS" for games made with Fusion 2.5?

    hi,

i purchased fusion 2.5 during the steam sale and was able to finish the chocobloc tutorial within a few hours. great tutorial! really got a handle on a lot of aspects of the app and it was indeed easy enough for a beginner to grasp.

i do computer graphics myself and do some scripting but am not really a programmer and i was really happy to see that i will really be able to use this productively!

anyway, while i was playing around with the app, i found out that the graphics were limited to palletized 8bit color. which is totally fine for me but it was unexpected.

so i was just wondering what the upper bounds of apps created with fusion are. i looked in the manual but couldn't find anything like that... for hardware products, such "specs" are usually listed on the product box. is there a list of such specs anywhere where you can point me to?

the kinds of answers i'm looking to are things like:

    - maximum color is 8 bit palletized (256 colors)? no other options (at greater memory usage of course)?
    - standard FPS? maximum FPS?
    - what is the largest app that fusion can create and is that size a reflection of how large it is in ram or disk space?
    - what is the largest screen resolution that fusion can support? currently, i've been able to increase the size of the frame but it just pushes out beyond the edges of a 640x480 actual screen to support scrolling. can i make the actual screen size larger? and is there a limit to how far the frame for scrolling can be?
    - what are the specs for sound? 42khz? 48?
    - what are the specs for video - limits in size? and is color palletized down to 256 colors automatically?
    - etc.

and please don't mistake me, i don't consider any of these limitations to be bad things... i mean, just the quality of work on display in commercial products made with fusion is enough for anyone to be quite happy to live within such limits!

but i'm just the kind of person who likes to know where the borders are.

    thanks much.

I'm not sure where you're getting the 256 color idea.. fusion supports 16.7 million colours. You can create any resolution you like by changing the Window size in the application properties (not the frame size)
You can set the framerate, default is 60.
The amount of ram available depends on the device (phone, tablet, computer)
File size would probably only be limited by the operating system.

    hi dave,

    thanks for the answers.

i'm getting the 256 colors from the picture editor. the palette on the right contains 256 discrete colors with no ability to choose anything else. is there a way to override that?

    thanks.

The built in image editor is great for basic editing, it shows a standard colour palette. It will however, handle any colour range you import into it. You can mix and blend colours using the custom colour option (which would allow for a crazy amount of variations). Regardless, you should use Photoshop or Paint.net (which is free) for more complex image editing; and then import your images into CTF 2.5.

    aha!

i think i found what i was looking for.

dave mentioned a lot of options and settings that i didn't know where they lived so i went hunting and i found that on the left side of the interface, the "workspace toolbar", there's an entity i have never clicked on before which is the entity above the frame in the hierarchy - on a default new file, it's called 'application1'...

and if you look in the properties toolbar after you select 'application1', you can specify things like how many colors your app will be and how many frames per second it is supposed to run at.

    sweet.

ah right... yeah there are a couple of places in the application that mentions palette and shows a 256 color layout but it seems that unless you explicitly select the 256 color mode in the application property, you can indeed use full 32bit color gamut - either by selecting "custom" after double clicking on your current/bg color box or by importing from photoshop etc. as you said.

the application also has a 256 color palette that you can set and the help says that if a person has to run your true color game in vga mode, it will palletize your true color graphics using the color palette defined for the application... that's handy!

    thanks for the reply!

Try to select your application in the "Workshop Toolbar" and see if the "Graphic Mode" under Properties is set to "16 million colors"
Normally the Graphic Mode should be set to 16 million colors by default, so I don't know why you only have 256.
