    Joystick 2 Causing Crash

whew.. so I lost an entire day to this.. I was testing my project and realised that if I stay on one frame for >3 minutes and then try to load another frame, the game will hang. I spent hours pouring through my map loading code (fast loops etc are usually the culprit) I slowly pulled the project apart bit by by until I was only left with the Joystick 2 object sitting in the frame (no events related to it)

So I found that if you have a Joystick 2 Object in your frame and leave that frame running for >3 minutes, then jump to another frame, Fusion will crash..

I'm posting this here to see if others can re-create the problem - annoyingly you'll have to wait 3 minutes for the bug to happen.... but it's a small price... I waited 3 minutes every time I was trying to narrow this problem down (probably 300 minutes in total) Attached is an example to make it easy.

In the end I did find a way to stop the crash from happening, I unchecked all the boxes in the Joystick 2 settings, I suspect it is something to do with either the polling on syncing with Fusion and maybe something to do with newer versions of windows from Vista onward.

It seems I can carry on with my project because it's all working without those settings checked.. but Joystick 2 is an important extension, so if it has a major bug like this I think it's best to get it fixed.

    It doesn't happen here
    (or ?)

sitting through about 4-5 transitions now
it still switches frames and doesn't crash
I launched this with "run application", maybe I had to build it?

(can feel the pain of pinpointing this issue the first time )

it was brutal. Maybe you can tweak the code to make it run for 5 minutes and see if it crashes after the frame change? otherwise... I don't know.. what version of Windows are you running? I'm on Windows 7.

Ok, going to try with 5 minutes, will report back in 10-15 minutes
or 5 if things go good (bad )

    I'm on windows7 too.

I have no Joystick btw, never used this object before,
don't know if this detects a device and crashes only with a device plugged?

What physical joystick are you using? Maybe it's something to do with the way the joystick 2 object is talking to that piece of hardware/driver

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    ehm...
    something happened.

I increased time to 5 minutes and still worked,
but then I tried ticking all checkboxes in Joystick2 object
and when I think I was around 3 minutes 20 or so
suddenly the keyboard locked the key I was pressing in that very moment, "a", as if I was keeping that continuously pressed
(this led me to comment an .mfa example I'm completing with trails of aaaaaaaaaaaa
and "a"rchive half of my thunderbird messages )
tried opening notepad and it got filled with aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa too

Stopped the mfa, quitted Fusion, nothing worked, had to reboot.

Now a bit hesitant to try again because have to go soon
maybe will do it later presetting a safe-from-accidents-environment.

Not 100% sure the joystick test was the cause of this,
but would be a odd coincidence if my pc showed this strange behaviour in a similar situation (timer around 3 minutes) to what you experienced.

Oddly, the example continued running fine during this aaaaaaaaaaa storm, however

    very strange.

My joypad is the latest Xbox (wired) controller. Haven't tested with another joypadn but I do have a couple of spares lying around. I'll test tomorrow with the others and with no device plugged in.

@DaveC: I had a quite similar problems and I think your could be right with the polling routines. In my case Joystick 2 object crashed my project on frame shift when I also assigned build in player controls to "joystick 1" at frame start. I got rid of these lines and only use custom build movements now, the problem disappeared. I will check your mfa tomorrow and see if I can give some feedback. Joystick 2 still is the best option to go but it seems to react sensitive in a bad way when it conflicts with Fusions build in joystick polling.
