    Best Working Resolution For Android

I am starting a project that will be using portrait mode, it is an app and not a game so the screen will never need to be in landscape mode.

I am wondering before I start what resolution I should have my application window at and what the frame sizes would need to be to best fit majority of Android devices.

Would 720 x 1080 work for my window size and frame sizes?

There will be no scrolling on the screen, the application will just be a bunch of different frames such as, Login screen, Menu screen, etc.

i upgraded my resolution to 1280 x 720 on landscape...
but since my monitor is just 1080, for portrait i do 960 x 540.

    I'll probably do 720x1280 if I upgrade to a 4k monitor.
But since you are just building an app and not a game, no heavy crisp graphics needed.
I will advice to do 540x960 (16:9 aspect ratio) and 720x960 if you are with dynamic resolution thing(fit and adjust option).
For me it looks fairly well on all devices. And 960 is not far from 1080, and you get better monitor space so why not.

Before I post this, I did some double check here:

and yeah 540x960 or 720x 960 is the way to go.

Ahh thats great! So the best resolution to work at for an application in portrait mode for Android would be 720 x 960?

I will give that a try. Would I set my application window as 720 x 960 and my frame sizes as 720 x 960. The only scrolling on this app will be touch gestures to scroll up and down to navigate the menu. Maybe a swipe gesture to swipe to a side menu too.

well that depends on how would you like to start off...
If you know how to code dynamically your UI and buttons into any resolution for android and iphone/ipads which takes more than 4:3 and 16:9 resolutions
What I would do is create a 540x960 (16:9 most of android and latest iphones) application and create the Frames at 720x960 (4:3 ipads and other tablets). Set it to fit inside and adjust.

And you said some swiping, it would be a bit of a challenge but workable

Cool I will try out the 540 x 960 as my application size and do the frames as 720 x 960. I'll post back here the results. This gives me a good base to work from. Now I know what size I can have my artboards in Illustrator to start doing my graphics
