    Heheh, thanks!

The next version of the game is actually almost done now, the boss is now fully functional. Just need to play-test it a bit more... Can't wait to see what you think!

    Version 0.0.6 is out!

    http://gamejolt.com/games/adventure-...r-twins/161629

    Here's a video:

And here's a kinda-sorta change-log, copied from the GameJolt news post:

    What the release does add:
    +Added Mining Drone Stage.
    +Added a new weapon.
    +Enabled a previously disabled weapon.
+Moved boss health bar, and made it larger. This is so that the player can better tell EXACTLY how much damage they've dealt to the bosses.
    +Jumping physics were adjusted slightly.
+The first boss's attack pattern was improved.
+Some various minor tweaks here and there which should improve the game experience.
    +ACHIEVEMENTS!

What this release does NOT add:
-This release doesn't add the weapon earned from defeating the Mining Drone. That will have to wait for me to finish coding it, sorry! I bet you're wondering what other weapons I could have possibly added now, though... Go play the new version to find out!
-This release is probably still going to be a bit unstable. Please report any bugs you encounter!
-This release also doesn't have any cutscenes other than the intro cutscene, so some things may not be explained particularly well yet.

Have fun with the new release!

    What a great job!
New intro screens / boss introductions are very nice,
everything flowed smoothly, gameplay seemed also more balanced
and the new weapons look interesting (the colorful laser is very fun - and handy)

Like the new boss, beaten him on second try (on first rush I got there with very small health left)

In the end I replayed the boxing boss with the powered weapon to blast him - as a revenge on him defeating me with first release

New stage looks a bit like "Guts Man" stage but with drills from "Metal man" stage (I think?)
cool how you mixed those classic ideas with a new different gameplay,
and having two-players option in a game like this is great.

With this new release you doubled fun, keep it on

Thanks! I tried my best to make things flow as smoothly as possible with the level layout, so I'm glad to hear that I actually succeeded with that one.

In regards to the intro, the second half of the cut-scene isn't actually 100% finished... I still need to get my sister to design the main villain of the game so I can put them there laughing evilly during the cut-scene, and I also need to make the in-game graphic for the <REDACTED> Drone so I can put it there as well. And that's just the beginning: I still need to add some minor cut-scenes for unlocking new weapons. Speaking of: Any guesses as to what kinds of bosses the silhouetted drones are?

I'm guessing that you probably noticed that you took damage whenever you fired the "colorful laser" as you called it? Sure, you heal most of the damage you take by defeating enemies, but you still take damage nonetheless, which is pretty noticeable if you try using it against the boss, or against the bomb-dropping enemies. Still a REALLY useful weapon, but I would still consider it somewhat balanced because of that...

...Well, aside from the fact that it can hurt enemies off-screen, which was a last-mine decision after I realized that it couldn't reach all the way across the screen with a recent nerf I gave it. I will probably fix that in the next version, unless you think it's fine the way it is in that regard. Oh, and the weapon in question is technically a bit of a reference to an old game from the mid-to-early DOS era of games (the game in question had a DOS port, but the game technically didn't originate on DOS)... probably a fairly obscure one these days, so it's probably going to go over most people's heads. I thought I'd point it out, though, just in case anybody wants to go on a hunt through DOS history to see if they can figure it out.

Also, good to hear that you like the new boss! Now give the game a try on hard mode to see what it's REALLY capable of... well, to see what it's capable of after being nerfed 10 or so times, because it was downright impossible to dodge in its final phase originally due to how fast it fired.

Yeah, I think a bit of Guts Man influence probably sneaked in there at one point or another. The shiny gems everywhere are more of a reference to Jewel Man, though. As for the drills... I myself actually forget if the way they behave is based off of anything in particular, and if so, what they're based off of. Heh.
(Probably doesn't help that I didn't design the enemies... that was up to my sister.)

And out of curiosity: Did you actually get a chance to play in multiplayer? I'm curious because the stage layout of the Mining Drone stage changes somewhat in multiplayer, the bosses all get double hitpoints in multiplayer, and the healing from defeating enemies is split between both players in multiplayer, so it's actually still a bit of a challenge.

Also, next time you play, maybe remember to log into GameJolt on the settings screen... because I can actually keep track of how many people have done so, and given that I seem to still be the only one, I'm going to guess you didn't the first time. You can properly get achievements after logging in to your GameJolt account there.

If you're new to logging into games on GameJolt: Enter your username and your TOKEN when logging into games. Your token is NOT the same thing as your password, and you can find it on the GameJolt website by clicking on your avatar on the navigation bar, and then clicking "game token" on the drop-down menu.

    Anyways...
Overall, I'm glad to hear you liked it!

Now I just need to figure out which stage to work on next... the <REDACTED> Drone, the <REDACTED> Drone, or the <REDACTED> Drone.

Ahhh yesss I've beaten the hard mode
and logged to GameJolt this time (thanks for the instructions on using the "game token" btw!)

Yeah I definitely noticed that weapon stole health, and thought it was cool and fresh idea
(as it is regaining life by destroying enemies)
used that weapon far less in hard mode
(no clue on the DOS game it came from!)

No chance to play in multiplayer unfortunately - I'm the only game player in the family
(and not that much of a game player lately..) and no friends around currently.

Could have a rough idea on what to expect from the "ufo-looking" boss
but I'm kinda clueless on the bottom-right boss, maybe something having to do with water maybe?

So, what did you think of hard mode? Was it a significantly harder challenge than normal mode, or am I over-estimating how hard it is? Also, how many tries did the bosses take? Was it TOO difficult?

I won't yet say what game the laser weapon is a reference to. I might say if I've finished making the first five stages (including the Boxing Drone and Mining Drone) and it STILL hasn't been figured out, but I'll give you guys plenty of time to figure out what it's a reference to yourselves, just in case somebody on here other than me actually DOES know what it's a reference to.

Also, it's fine that you haven't gotten a chance to play multiplayer. If you ever DO get the chance, though, then definitely let me know what you think!

As for the guesses you have for the bosses... Well, I can say this: You're probably both right AND wrong about the "UFO-looking" boss.
I won't comment on what you said about bottom-right one, though, given how you were less certain about it. That, and the "UFO-looking" one is likely the one I'll be making the stage for next.

    on the hard mode:
it was surely harder (of course..)
(guess regular enemies withstood more hits among other things)
    but
    - given how poor my gaming skills are + the fact I'm using a keyboard -
I thought it was not too hard.

Not sure if it was the fact I'm now more aware of boss patterns, after some playthroughs,
but I was able to beat boxing drone on first run (think I got there with almost full health)
even though I seem to remember I could withstand only one or two hits still when he finally exploded.

The mining drone has beaten me once, but I got there with very low health

I think I lost a couple lives in the mining drone stage,
one time for sure through the "shootless" run with the green diamond, trying to avoid enemies
(before realizing the alternative path was much easier )

So I would say it's clearly harder, but not exaggerately hard,
some games have prohibitively hard modes, guess it's a matter of taste.

I think it's fine this way, well balanced for a hard mode, as of my personal feel!

Good to hear that you think hard mode is balanced well. I guess I won't need to worry about that, then.

EDIT: By the way, what do you think of the musics?

(P.S. Those easter eggs I mentioned a while back are still around, if you can find them. If you want a hint, then highlight the text below. And yes, there is text below this, it's just that it blends in with the background.)

It is related to selecting your difficulty level.

    eheheh now I've found it
(was asking what could have been.. would have NEVER thought of it without the hint!)

...and the boxing drone quickly had his unquestionable revenge

    edit:
ah, the music is cool, the 8-bit sound is perfectly fitting
fx are very megamanish also (blasts/hits)

maybe -if you search for areas of improvement-,
you could try composing some very distinctive "theme",
those sticky melodies that subtly start looping in your head
(gosh I realize I still have bombman theme available in my head...)
but they are pretty difficult to successfully lay down, even for long-time-professional-composers

...will give it another go just to see if something starts sticking here as well after additional plays
