MochiAds, Pay per view or click? and general ?'s

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I couldn't find too much information about MochiAds, I just had a couple questions on it. If we're allowed to even talk about it...

-Do you get paid per every time the ad is viewed, or is it clicked?
-How much average would you get from it? I'd imagine around $.05? Which will of course eventually add up as people play your game.
-And on average, assuming the game is moderatly known, how much would you say you can make a month from it.

-I haven't played with the Flash exporter yet, are most objects, extensions compatable with it?

Thank you, I'll probably have more questions in the future.

  • It depends on the ads, mochi can't guarentee a steady rate or anything like that, but I can tell you it's pretty reliable, like you do get money, they don't scam you or anything.

How much you make depends on the game, the ads, the viewers, etc. What I've noticed for an average is an eCPM of around $0.35, never lower than $0.20, and rarely higher than $0.60. That is how much you make per thousand views. So if in a day, you get 2,000 views, you easily have a dollar, which is around what you'll see on a game's first day. Of course, I'm speaking from a viewpoint of what I've seen with my games.

Some games get very popular, and featured with Mochi's distribution system. One of my games got featured on some Polish site, and I got like 4 dollars in one day. That really isnt even much, but it made me happy :P

For me, with 6 games, I now have a steady rate of around $0.60 cents a day. For a moderately known game, we could probably assume around $0.80 a day, so 24 bucks a month. These statistics are being created from my mind, but I feel that's pretty accurate. And some say that sponsorship is better, but I just started to see what its like today.

The common extensions, string, active, edit box, list, etc. are in Flash, as well as a few new ones, like Looki's Surface Object. It is a nice selection, not limiting at all.

Any more questions, you can ask here or PM me, I'll glady help you out. I've only had Flash for 2 weeks, but I've been watching and keeping track of how it does with Mochi, and hopefully what I notice can help others.

  • Yes, Eliyahu's just about summed up my experience of it as well. It's not a huge money maker, but it's a nice little extra, especially as you also get to see just how many people are playing your game throughout the world. The eCPM (average payment per thousand impressions) depends on who's playing your game - for example, one of my games recently had a huge spike of viewers in China and Korea, but because it's very cheap to advertise there, the eCPM was lower than it would have been if those views had been in other places in the world.

I'm also venturing into sponsorship just now, with a game up for bidding - we'll see how that goes!

  • I'm in the same boat basically. One of my games was played twice as much as another, but the other made twice as much money, because of the countries they were being displayed in. Also you must consider blocked ads, as they wont display and won't earn you money.

And I put a game up on FlashGameLicense today, it said it takes 48-72 hours to approve, then you just wait for bids. I'm hoping it does well.

If you make a bunch of games, you'll get a steady flow of money with minimal effort, well worth it.

  • Thank you so much for the fast replies! Yeah, my main focus for this is to just have a little extra spending money.

When you use FlashGameLicense, what exactly are you selling? Just for the buyer to basically do whatever they want with the title? I was reading around the forum, some people seem to get quite a few $$$ doing that.

But with Mochi, ~60 cents a day doesn't sound too bad for having a few games.

  • With FGL you can sell whatever you want. I'm still unfamiliar with the different ways to sell, but they explain it. Basically what I figure is that you can negotiate with the sponsor, and you can even check off a box that says you are willing to sell the source code and/or rights if you want. You can do really whatever you want.

With Mochi, do the distribution, and Newgrounds. Distribution can get your game featured, and NG gets lots of views the first day, and someone actually PMd me asking to put my game on their site, so it got quite a few more views after that. I'd say with Mochi Distribution+NG, you're good to go.

  • I'd just like to add to this to give you alittle more encouragement.

I've earn't through Mochi, $106 this month so far, and $136 last month.
    A total of $518.59 in 133 days.

The eCPM really changes, at one point I was getting $1.16 every 1000 hits, somtimes I make more money from a game that has less than half the hits of another.
It really depends on the sites it ends up on, some just have higher payouts.

Here are the games that have earnt that money, nothing amazing.

I certainly suggest adding it to newgrounds though, even if its just up for 6 hours you should make a nice bit of cash.

  • One more question. I still haven't downloaded the flash demo yet, but this is a bit important...The way I designed this new game. I need to know if these are compatable:
    -Platform movement object
    -Built in Bouncing ball
    -Built in Pinball
    -Built in Path Movement
    -Ink Effects (thanks LB!)
-Mouse support (an active tracking the X, Y position of the mouse)
    -Layers
    -Counters
    -Alterable Values

I'm sure they all are, but I wanted to make sure before I got too far in development. Thank you!

I'll have to wait until my next paycheck to buy it and try it out.
